Travel & Getting There

Travel and
getting there

You start in the Highlands and finish in London. The travel is part of the product, so we plan it with you.

Fourteen per cent of Monster participants travel from outside the UK. This page covers arrival, registration, what happens to your bike, and getting home from the finish.

Saturday

Arrival, the day before

The event begins the day before stage one. You arrive at Loch Ness on Saturday, register, have your bike checked and meet the group over dinner.

Afternoon
Arrive at the Loch Ness base hotel. Bike assembly space and mechanical support available. [Confirm arrival times]
Registration
Collect your number, GPS tracker and Monster jersey. Kit check and swim briefing.
Evening
Full rider briefing for the week, then dinner with the group and the crew.

Inbound

Getting to Loch Ness

  • By air. Inverness is the closest airport, with connections via London, Manchester and Amsterdam. Edinburgh and Glasgow are longer transfers but better served.
  • By rail. The Caledonian Sleeper runs from London Euston to Inverness overnight, which many participants use to avoid a flight with a bike.
  • By road. Parking is available at the base hotel for the week. [Confirm]
  • Bike transport. We can collect your bike and deliver it to the start as an optional extra. [Confirm]

Outbound

Getting home from London

  • The finish is in London on Saturday 12 June, with the celebration running into the evening.
  • Friends and family are welcome at the finish.
  • We recommend booking your onward travel for Sunday rather than Saturday evening. Nobody wants a train to catch after seven days.
  • Bikes are returned to you at the finish, or transported home if you booked that option. [Confirm]

From outside the UK

International participants

Participants have travelled to Monster from the USA, Canada, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Norway and South Korea. If you are coming from further afield, tell us early and we will help you plan the days either side.

  • Travel insurance covering endurance sport is a condition of entry.
  • We can advise on extra nights at Loch Ness and in London, both available as optional extras.
  • Bike hire in the UK can be arranged rather than flying a bike. [Confirm]
